What 40cm means
What Is 40cm High Resolution Satellite Imagery?
40cm high resolution satellite imagery is optical imagery in which every pixel covers about 0.4m by 0.4m of ground. XRTech Group supplies it from SuperView-2, which captures a native 0.42m, so cars and vans, rooftop equipment, road edges, tree crowns and building outlines are sharper than at 50cm. XRTech Group sells it as archive scenes from $13/km² or fresh tasking from $20/km², anywhere on Earth.
40cm is usually quoted as a resolution class rather than one exact number, so it pays to ask what the sensor really captures. We state the true figure: SuperView-2 imagery is 42cm on the sensor, never upsampled from 50cm data. It sits between 50cm imagery and 30cm imagery, adding detail over 50cm without the higher price per km² of 30cm.
For large-area work, 40cm is a strong choice when 50cm is slightly too coarse: municipal base maps, utility and road asset mapping, plantation inventories and environmental surveys. Its red-edge and two near-infrared bands also make it one of the better high resolution options for vegetation analysis over wide areas.

Large orders, solved
Wide-Area 40cm Imagery Without the Usual Delays
Buying 40cm imagery for one site is simple. Buying it for a city region, a long corridor or a national programme is where projects stall. These are the four problems large buyers bring to XRTech Group, and how we handle each one.
Large Areas Planned Around the Swath
SuperView-2 images a 15 km strip, wider than most satellites in its class, and can revisit a location every 1.5 days. We plan your area into collection strips, fill what we can from the archive first and combine 40cm with 50cm coverage where your project allows, so large areas are not left waiting on the weather.
• 15 km swath and 1.5-day revisit for regional programmes
• Archive and new tasking combined to close gaps quickly
• Phased delivery, so work starts on the first tiles
• Collection reports showing what is captured and what is pending

FAQ
40cm Satellite Imagery: Your Questions Answered
What is 40cm high resolution satellite imagery?
40cm high resolution satellite imagery is optical imagery where each pixel covers about 0.4m by 0.4m on the ground, sharp enough to show cars, rooftop equipment, road edges and individual tree crowns. XRTech Group supplies 40cm-class imagery worldwide from SuperView-2, which captures a native 0.42m.
How much does 40cm satellite imagery cost?
XRTech Group sells 40cm archive imagery at $13 to $14/km² (minimum 25 km²) and new 40cm tasking at $20 to $22/km² (minimum 100 km²), for areas at least 5 km wide. Priority tasking is $37/km² and emergency tasking is $66/km². Stereo is 2× and tri-stereo 3× the mono price, and extended multispectral bands add 10%. Cloud cover limits (+$8 or +$15/km²) and viewing angle limits (+$3 or +$9/km²) are optional, and volume pricing applies from 250 km².
Do you offer bulk or volume discounts on 40cm imagery?
Yes. Volume pricing starts at 250 km², and the rate per km² drops as the total area grows. The final rate depends on total area, the mix of archive and new tasking, delivery deadlines and cloud limits. Regional, national and multi-year monitoring programmes get a custom written rate. Send your boundary file and XRTech Group replies with a volume quote within 24 hours.
Which satellites provide 40cm imagery?
Is your 40cm imagery really 40cm or 42cm?
Our 40cm imagery is captured at a native 42cm ground sample distance by SuperView-2. 40cm is the resolution class buyers and sellers use, and we always state the true sensor figure. The imagery is not resampled, so every pixel holds real ground information for measurement and analysis.
What can you see in 40cm satellite imagery?
At 40cm you can see individual buildings and rooftop equipment, road edges and lanes, cars, vans and trucks, ships in port, single tree crowns and the layout of construction sites. People cannot be identified, and number plates and small road markings cannot be read.
How long does delivery of 40cm imagery take?
Archive 40cm imagery is delivered within 48 hours of order approval. New tasking depends on weather and satellite capacity over your area, and emergency tasking is prioritised for collection within 24 hours, as reported by XRTech Group. Large orders are delivered in phases, archive first, so your team can start work straight away.
What is the difference between 40cm and 50cm satellite imagery?
Each 42cm pixel covers about 30% less ground than a 50cm pixel, so vehicle shapes, rooftop details, road edges and tree crowns are clearer, and SuperView-2 adds red-edge and a second near-infrared band. 50cm covers wider areas per pass, up to 130 km with SuperView Neo-3. XRTech Group prices both in the same tier, so choose 40cm when detail matters and 50cm when you need the widest coverage.
Do I need an export licence or permit to buy 40cm satellite imagery?
No. XRTech Group is a non-US satellite imagery provider, so 40cm orders are not subject to US ITAR or EAR export controls. Buyers in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and other regions can buy 40cm imagery under standard commercial terms, without the export licence checks and delays that can apply to US-sourced data.
What formats and processing levels are available?
40cm imagery is delivered as GeoTIFF in natural colour or 4-band (blue, green, red, near-infrared), pan-sharpened to 0.42m, with red-edge and a second near-infrared band available from SuperView-2. You can order basic Level 1B for your own processing or orthorectified Level 2A, in WGS84 or UTM, ready for QGIS, ArcGIS and CAD.
Can I make a DEM or 3D model from 40cm imagery?
Yes. SuperView-2 collects stereo imagery. A 40cm stereo pair costs 2× the mono price and supports a digital elevation model, DSM, DTM and 3D city models for planning and engineering. For dense city centres, 30cm tri-stereo gives the best results.
Is 40cm the right resolution, or do I need 50cm or 30cm?
Choose 40cm when you need more detail than 50cm over large areas at the same price per km². Choose 50cm when the widest coverage per pass matters most. Choose 30cm when vehicle types, road markings or engineering detail matter more than cost. The resolution guide compares every option.
